Hakim Group expands portfolio in Scotland

Scottish-based independent, Urquhart Opticians, has joined the Hakim Group.

The optical group, which has eight practices in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Troon, Prestwick, Kilwinning, Stranraer, Saltcoats and West Kilbride, was originally established by Robert Urquhart in 1916.

The business was purchased by current managing director, Peter Telfer, and clinical director, Alistair Duff, in 2015. As an optometrist, Duff is chair of the Ayrshire Area Optical Professional Committee and is also on the board of Optometry Scotland as a representative for the Hakim Group.

Speaking about joining the Hakim Group, Telfer said the independent was “delighted to be in partnership with the Hakim Group,” explaining that the company’s “culture, values, and patient-centred approach align completely with our own.”

“We can see why so many of the leading independent practices in the UK are embracing their innovative approach to independent optometry,” he said, adding: “We are committed to providing the best clinical care, premium eyewear collections and a personal service so we know our patients as well as they know us… Moving forward, working with Hakim, we will continue to provide our patients with the very best care and continue our support of the communities we serve.”
