Reaching new heights: Hakim Group focuses on wellbeing through walking

Hakim Group HQ staff walked to Darwen Tower in Lancashire on 12 May in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week (9-15 May).

A group of 50 staff spent two hours climbing to the landmark, which was built in 1898 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

Mental Health Awareness Week focused on the theme of loneliness this year, which prompted the eye care company to promote a sense of community by organising a group walk.

Head of transformation and engagement at Hakim Group, Nick Lowe, shared that nature is central to psychological and emotional health.

“We wanted to get the team outdoors and connected to the natural world,” he said.

Lowe, who is a mental health first aider, added: “We are fortunate enough to be based in a beautiful part of Lancashire and being able to explore our surroundings and enjoy the spectacular views from the top of Darwen Tower was the perfect way to boost our wellbeing.”

The trip coincided with National Walking Month, a campaign by Living Streets encouraging people to walk for 20 minutes each day during May.
